This past month, The Servicemen had the privilege of partnering with our brother Jerome Wasswa and the Booker-Meacham School in Mityana, Uganda, for our latest outreach initiative: Operation Sharing the Light.
What began as an idea from Jerome became a living, breathing symbol of hope. He coordinated cultural dancers, safe transportation for the children, logistics planning, and stewardship of the budget. The children themselves carried the popcorn machine, the outdoor projector, and the movie screen—all tools to bring light, joy, and possibility to Kassana, Jerome’s hometown. Together, we watched Black Panther under the stars, not as mere entertainment, but as a beacon of what is possible when community, culture, and vision unite.
Uganda is a nation of deep cultural richness. From the Buganda Kingdom’s centuries-old traditions to the resilience of its farming communities, storytelling and heritage are woven into the fabric of daily life. Black Panther carries that same spirit of cultural pride and self-determination. For children in Kassana, the story of Wakanda—an African nation leading with innovation, unity, and vision—was more than fiction. It was a reminder that Africa does not need saving; Africa has always been enough.
Just as King T’Challa chose to share Wakanda’s resources with the world, the Booker-Meacham School shared its resources with Kassana. This wasn’t just a film screening—it was a living lesson. The children brought the hope of Wakanda home, demonstrating that education, culture, and community can be powerful tools for rebuilding Uganda and the diaspora together.
The Booker-Meacham School is more than a place of learning. It is a launching pad for young leaders who will one day shape Uganda and the world. By investing in digital equity, cultural exchange, and early engagement projects like Operation Sharing the Light, we are proving that rebuilding Uganda means rebuilding the diaspora.
Home isn’t just a place on a map. It’s a feeling in your heart and a vision in your mind. For us, Uganda is home—because it has always been home. Every outreach operation reaffirms this truth: invest in Africa, because Africa is enough.
Through The Servicemen’s work and under my leadership, we will continue to create authentic intersections between culture, education, and hope. Operation Sharing the Light was one night, but it carries lessons for a lifetime: we rise by lifting each other, and we rebuild by sharing what we have.
To everyone reading this: join us in this mission. Whether through partnership, resources, or amplifying our story, you are part of this vision. Together, we will teach the world what it means to invest in Africa and to believe in the light of our children.
