✨ Project Grio is here. ✨
From the voices of our children in Mityana, Uganda, to the echoes of our ancestors across the diaspora, we launch a movement of poetry and hope.
The first recitation? Useni Perkins’ timeless Hey Black Child — a call to dream, to believe, and to rise.
📖 Project Grio will feature poems and speeches from Africa and the African-American tradition, recited by students of the Booker-Meacham School for Gifted Youngsters. More than literature, these words are living blueprints for confidence, culture, and connection.
This is about:
🌍 Connecting the diaspora through dialogue
🎤 Teaching history through storytelling
💡 Building the confidence of the next generation
Poetry is not just written. It is lived.
And through Project Grio, our students will carry its promise forward.

✨ Operation Sharing the Light ✨
This month, The Servicemen partnered with Jerome Wasswa and the Booker-Meacham School in Mityana, Uganda, to bring hope, culture, and digital equity to Kassana.
With dancers, safe transport, and the children themselves carrying the popcorn machine, projector, and screen, we gathered to watch Black Panther under the stars. Just like Wakanda shared its resources, our students shared theirs with Jerome’s hometown—proving that the Booker-Meacham School isn’t just about building leaders, but rebuilding Uganda and the diaspora, one outreach at a time.
Home isn’t on a map—it’s in our hearts and vision.
Invest in Africa. Because Africa is enough. 🌍
For many of our little ones, something as simple as a pair of shoes means the world. It means walking to school with pride, attending class in comfort, and feeling seen, loved, and supported.
A huge thank you to our beloved Brother Taurean for blessing us with bug zappers to help keep the children safe from mosquitoes!
As we work with children, we discover their dreams and passions — even in the smallest moments. Like Peyton, our quiet little boy, who once picked up a piece of wood and strummed it like a guitar. That simple act spoke volumes.
For children who once made music with bottle tops, sticks, wood and plastic cans, this was nothing short of a miracle. Today, they felt seen, valued, and inspired.
📣 A New Tool, A New Opportunity
We’re excited to share a small but meaningful update: we got an air fryer! 🍽️✨
Our children are now equipped with new school-going shoes, thanks to the incredible generosity of Brother Taurean! His support continues to bring hope, dignity, and joy to their lives. Every step they take in these new shoes is a step toward a brighter future. Thank you, Brother Taurean!

Recently, our home at St. Francis Xavier Mityana Children's Foundation faced a bedbug infestation that deeply affected our children. The itching, discomfort, and sleepless nights took a toll on their health and peace of mind.
At The Booker-Meacham School for Gifted Youngsters, we’re not just inspiring dreams—we’re teaching our kids to roll them up and make them real!
I’m excited to announce the launch of Operation: Just Like Me, a partnership between The Servicemen and St. Francis Xavier Academy in Uganda.
We are beyond thrilled to share a beautiful surprise—Brother Taurean, through The Servicemen, has gifted us something truly life-changing: our very first freezer!
Fresh Juice & Fruits for a Healthy Start! Today, we treated the children to fresh juice and fruit-simple joys that make a big difference.
Gratitude fills our hearts today! Thanks to the incredible generosity of Brother Taurean and The Servicemen, we have received brand-new saucepans for our children's meals.
Today, our hearts are full of gratitude! Brother Taurean has lovingly gifted each of our children their very own personal bath towel — a small item to many, but a symbol of dignity, care, and personal comfort for our little ones.
In a world where promises often fall flat and good intentions rarely reach their destination, action becomes the loudest language of love. That’s exactly what the partnership between The Servicemen and St. Francis Xavier Academy in Uganda is speaking—loud, clear, and with undeniable impact.

Today, I had the distinct honor of blessing my daughter’s class, her teachers, and the security guards at DOROTHY I HEIGHT ELEMENTARY SCHOOL in Washington, D.C., with holiday gifts. This act of gratitude and love is part of a new initiative close to my heart: Operation: Spread Love, an outreach effort led by me and The Servicemen to recognize and uplift the unsung heroes in our children’s lives.
Today, we planted more than seeds—we planted possibilities. Operation Planting Seeds with The Servicemen and the incredible Pre-K 4 classes at Dorothy I. Height Elementary reminded me why early engagement matters so much. In just 45 minutes, more than 40 bright young minds got a chance to dig into the soil, choose their own seeds, and learn that food doesn’t just come from stores—it comes from care, culture, and community.
The Servicemen, led by Taurean Meacham, have announced a groundbreaking collaboration with St. Francis Xavier Mityana Children's Foundation Limited in Uganda, marking the first step of a transformative initiative called Operation H.O.P.E. (Honoring Our Promised Equity). Rooted in the ethos of active collaboration with historically affected communities, the program seeks to empower vulnerable populations by leveraging the talents, resources, and platforms of those from underrepresented communities to "reach back" and extend opportunities to others.
Inspired by a commitment to equity and global kinship, Operation H.O.P.E. aims to expand beyond Uganda to nations with historical ties to freed Black populations, including Liberia, Haiti, Brazil, and Indigenous communities in North America. The mission reflects a vision of reconnection and restoration: reconnecting the African diaspora to its global family while honoring the shared legacy of resilience, strength, and unity.
